Valentin Vacherot beat third seed Rafael Jódar in three tight sets at the Swiss Indoors to reach the Basel quarter-finals.
Valentin Vacherot needed more than two and a half hours to see off Spain's Rafael Jódar at the Swiss Indoors Basel on Thursday, grinding out a 7-6, 2-6, 7-6 win over the tournament's third seed to reach the quarter-finals.
The Monégasque, who trains out of the Monte Carlo Country Club, has become one of the Principality's most closely followed sportsmen on the ATP circuit. His run in Basel, one of the biggest indoor events on the European swing, adds another marker to a season in which he has steadily climbed the rankings and raised his profile at home.
For Monaco's tennis community, a quarter-final appearance at a tournament of this stature is worth watching closely. Vacherot now turns his attention to the next round, with a strong result in Basel likely to boost his standing heading into the closing stretch of the season.
