Triathlon returns to Monaco this weekend after 14 years

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

More than 1,200 athletes will compete in Monaco's first triathlon since 2012 across Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November.

The triathlon is back in the Principality this weekend, the first edition since the event vanished from the Monaco sporting calendar fourteen years ago. More than 1,200 competitors have signed up for the two days of racing on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November, a field that organisers say reflects renewed appetite for endurance sport in Monaco after more than a decade without a dedicated triathlon fixture.

For residents, the return means a busy weekend around the usual pinch points, with swim, cycle and run legs likely to affect traffic and pedestrian access in parts of the Principality. Anyone living or working near the race route should expect some disruption to normal movement on both days, particularly during the morning hours when the bulk of competitors will be out on course.

The comeback also signals something broader for Monaco's sporting identity, which has leaned heavily on Formula 1, football and basketball in recent years. A triathlon with four-figure entry numbers suggests organisers are betting on sustained demand, and if this weekend goes smoothly it could mark the start of a fixture returning permanently to the calendar rather than a one-off revival.
