Suspicious package triggers security alert on Bd Albert Ier

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

A suspicious package closed part of Boulevard Albert Ier on Thursday evening and an explosion was heard across the Condamine.

Monaco's Public Security Department set up a perimeter near the Le Khedive tobacconist on Boulevard Albert Ier at around 6.30pm on Thursday after a suspicious package was reported in the area. Officers closed part of the boulevard while the situation was assessed, disrupting traffic through one of the busiest stretches linking the port to Fontvieille.

Residents in the Condamine district reported hearing an explosion during the operation, understood to be part of the controlled procedure used by security services to neutralise the item. No injuries have been reported.

For those living or working along Boulevard Albert Ier, the closure will have meant detours during the evening rush, a reminder of how quickly a routine street can become a restricted zone when security teams move in. Further details on the nature of the package have not yet been confirmed.
