Stamp museum charts transport history this summer

The Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies in Fontvieille opens a new philatelic exhibition tracing the evolution of transport and communication from foot messengers to modern technology.
From May to late September 2026, the Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies at the Terrasses de Fontvieille is hosting "Voyage au fil du timbre", an exhibition that uses postage stamps as a lens through which to examine how humanity has moved people, goods and ideas across distance over the centuries.
The exhibition traces a journey from the earliest messengers travelling on foot or horseback through to the technologies that define communication today. Stamps, often dismissed as collector's curiosities, are presented here as historical documents in miniature, each one reflecting a moment in the transformation of transport networks and the social and commercial shifts that followed.
For residents of Fontvieille and those who visit the Terrasses regularly, this is a substantial addition to the cultural calendar that runs across the summer and well into autumn. The museum is already a quiet but rewarding destination in the Principality, and an exhibition of this scope gives both locals and visitors a genuine reason to make the journey down to this corner of Monaco.
