SMA to hand out free anti-urine bottles for pavements

The Société Monégasque d'Assainissement (SMA) is rolling out a new initiative to tackle a persistent complaint from residents walking the Principality's streets: dog urine on pavements. From late October, the SMA will distribute small bottles free of charge at selected locations across Monaco, designed to let dog owners rinse the pavement immediately after their pet relieves itself.
The scheme targets a problem familiar to anyone who walks regularly through districts such as Condamine or Monte-Carlo, where narrow pavements and high footfall make the issue particularly noticeable. Rather than imposing fines or stepped-up enforcement, the SMA has opted for a practical, low-cost solution that relies on voluntary cooperation from dog owners.
For residents, the move signals a continued focus on street-level cleanliness in a Principality where public space is at a premium and expectations around upkeep run high. Details on exact distribution points have yet to be confirmed, but the initiative is expected to roll out across several municipal locations in the coming weeks.
