SMA pledges continuity at Monaco's waste plant ahead of new facility

The Société Monégasque d'Assainissement has reaffirmed its commitment to keeping Monaco's existing waste-to-energy plant fully operational during the transition to its planned replacement.
The Société Monégasque d'Assainissement (SMA) has moved to reassure residents and the Principality's authorities that it remains fully mobilised at the current waste valorisation plant while preparations for a new facility continue in the background.
The public body, responsible for Monaco's waste treatment and sanitation infrastructure, stressed that guaranteeing continuity of operations at the existing plant is an immediate priority. The statement comes at a period when the question of long-term waste management capacity has drawn increasing attention, given the Principality's limited land area and the scale of its planned infrastructure renewals.
