Private sector pay rises in Monaco, gap remains

By MonacoViews Editorial, MonacoViews Editorial

New IMSEE figures show the median gross monthly private sector salary reached €3,475 in 2025, up €136 on the previous year, though inequality between industries and genders persists.

Fresh data from IMSEE, the Principality's statistics institute, confirms that private sector wages in Monaco continued their upward trend in 2025, with the median gross monthly salary reaching €3,475, a rise of €136 compared to 2024. The figures offer a degree of reassurance for workers across the Principality, where the cost of living remains among the highest in the world.

Yet the headline growth masks persistent structural imbalances. Significant gaps remain between sectors, with certain industries pulling the median figure well above what many employees in lower-paid roles actually take home. The divide between male and female earnings also continues, a pattern IMSEE has flagged in previous reporting cycles without any marked narrowing.

For Monaco residents and those who commute into the Principality for work, the data is a useful benchmark against which to measure their own position in a labour market that remains highly competitive. Employers, too, will be watching the figures closely as pressure mounts, both from workers and from broader European trends, to address pay equity more seriously.
