Prince Albert II addressed the Med9 summit in Croatia, calling for collective action on environmental and climate crises.
Prince Albert II was the guest of honour at this year's Med9 summit, which brought together leaders from nine southern European Union states in Croatia. From the podium, the Sovereign used his address to press the case for a coordinated response to ecological crises, arguing that no single nation in the Mediterranean basin can tackle rising seas, biodiversity loss or water scarcity alone.
The Prince's remarks reflect the environmental diplomacy that has defined much of his reign, built on decades of work through the Prince Albert II Foundation and Monaco's longstanding advocacy for Mediterranean conservation. Being invited as guest of honour to a summit of nine EU member states underscores the weight Monaco's voice carries on these issues, despite the Principality's small size.
For Monaco, the appearance also reinforces the state's positioning as a diplomatic actor on climate policy beyond its own borders, a role that feeds directly into local priorities such as coastal protection and marine biodiversity in Monégasque waters.
