Parcel bomb inquiry: one detained then freed, victim critical

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Monaco's public prosecutor has issued a second statement on the parcel bomb attack that injured a resident on Monday, as one person is released from custody and the victim remains in a critical condition.

Two days after a parcel bomb detonated in the Principality, the Parquet Général has updated the public on a fast-moving investigation. A person taken into custody in connection with the attack has since been released without charge, while the victim - injured when the device exploded on Monday - remains between life and death in hospital.

The victim's son has been interviewed by police as part of the inquiry. No further arrests have been announced as of Wednesday 1 July 2026, though the investigation remains open and active. The Parquet Général indicated it will continue to issue updates as the case develops.

The attack, which targeted an individual at a residential address in Monaco, is being treated as a serious criminal matter. Residents are advised to contact the Direction de la Sûreté Publique if they have any information relevant to the inquiry.
