Palace Guard switches to summer whites on Place du Palais

By Michael Moretti, MonacoViews Editorial

The Prince's Carabiniers made their seasonal uniform change on Monday 4 May, marking six months since the darker winter dress was last worn.

On a grey Monday morning, the Place du Palais hosted one of the Principality's most recognisable seasonal rituals, as the Prince's Carabiniers appeared in their white summer uniforms for the first time since last autumn. The transition, which takes place twice a year at the Changing of the Guard, marks one of the clearest signals that Monaco has shifted from winter to summer mode.

The switch from dark winter dress to the crisp white summer uniform has taken place for generations, and for residents and visitors gathered on the palace square it remains one of those small but satisfying markers of the calendar turning. Despite overcast skies on the day, the ceremony proceeded as normal.
