Nice teenager sentenced for helmet thefts in Monaco car parks

An 18-year-old apprentice from Nice has been handed a community service sentence after admitting to stealing motorcycle helmets from underground car parks across the Principality.
Monaco Criminal Court handed down its verdict on Wednesday, 2 September, after an 18-year-old from Nice admitted to stealing and attempting to steal motorcycle helmets from underground car parks in the Principality. The defendant, an apprentice in the automotive industry with no prior criminal record, had spent 48 hours in custody before appearing before the court.
The case serves as a reminder that Monaco's compact geography and dense network of surveillance cameras make it a particularly difficult environment in which to commit opportunistic crime. Underground car parks, which serve residents across districts from Fontvieille to La Condamine, are monitored closely and thefts of this kind are treated seriously by the authorities regardless of the offender's age or background.
