New MOT Rules for Electric and Hybrid Vehicles Coming to Monaco

From April 2026, electric and hybrid vehicles will face additional technical inspections in Monaco's updated MOT system.

Starting in April 2026, owners of electric and hybrid vehicles in Monaco will need to undergo enhanced technical inspections as part of their mandatory vehicle checks.

The new regulations introduce specialised control points specifically designed for battery-powered and hybrid vehicles, reflecting the growing number of eco-friendly cars on the Principality's roads. These additional checks will examine the unique technical components of electric drivetrains and hybrid systems.

The updated MOT requirements acknowledge the different maintenance needs of electric and hybrid vehicles compared to traditional combustion engines. Vehicle owners will need to factor in these new inspection criteria when scheduling their mandatory technical controls.

This development aligns with Monaco's commitment to sustainable transport and ensures that the increasing fleet of environmentally conscious vehicles meets proper safety and technical standards.
