New Battery Cooling Checks Added to Vehicle Testing Programme

Vehicle inspections will include battery coolant level monitoring from March 2026, targeting electric and hybrid cars to prevent overheating risks.

Starting 21st March 2026, Monaco's vehicle inspection regime will incorporate enhanced checks for electric and hybrid vehicle battery cooling systems. The new testing protocol will monitor coolant fluid levels in traction batteries, even when no visible leaks are present.

This additional verification builds upon current inspection procedures, which previously focused primarily on detecting visible coolant leaks. The enhanced testing aims to identify potential thermal management issues before they escalate into serious battery degradation or thermal runaway incidents.

Beyond the clear safety benefits, these new cooling system checks will help maintain optimal battery performance and extend the operational lifespan of electric and hybrid vehicles. The measure reflects Monaco's commitment to supporting the growing population of electric vehicles whilst ensuring public safety standards remain paramount.
