New battery cooling checks added to Monaco's vehicle inspections from March 2026
Technical inspections will include battery cooling system checks for electric and hybrid vehicles to prevent overheating and extend battery life.
Starting 21st March 2026, Monaco's mandatory vehicle inspections will include a new examination point specifically designed for electric and hybrid car batteries. The enhanced checks will assess the cooling systems that keep traction batteries at optimal temperatures.
The updated inspection protocol can detect drops in coolant levels even when no visible leaks are present, addressing a gap in current safety measures. Previously, technical inspections focused primarily on identifying obvious fluid leaks from battery systems.
This development aims to prevent serious safety risks including battery degradation and thermal runaway, a dangerous condition where batteries overheat uncontrollably. Beyond safety considerations, proper cooling system maintenance helps preserve battery performance and extends the operational lifespan of electric and hybrid vehicles.
The measure reflects Monaco's commitment to maintaining high safety standards as electric vehicle adoption continues to grow throughout the Principality.
