Marco Simone's Monaco United women's side were beaten on penalties by Olympique de Marseille's reserve team in Saturday's Coupe Méditerranée final at Cagnes-sur-Mer.
Saturday night's Coupe Méditerranée final at the Stade Sauvaigo in Cagnes-sur-Mer ended in heartbreak for Monaco United's women's side, who were edged out on penalties by the reserve team of Olympique de Marseille after the two sides could not be separated in normal time.
Coached by Marco Simone, the Monégasque squad had reached the final of the Mediterranean competition and came agonisingly close to claiming the trophy before the shootout decided matters in Marseille's favour. It was a narrow and frustrating defeat for a side that will nonetheless take considerable pride from its run to the final.
