Monaco steps up mosquito surveillance for summer

Specialised traps are being deployed across the Principality to monitor mosquito populations and screen for health risks as temperatures rise.
Ahead of what is expected to be another warm summer, Monaco has expanded its mosquito monitoring programme with the installation of new traps designed to capture and analyse insects for potential disease vectors. The traps are positioned in shaded resting spots close to water sources, the conditions where mosquitoes are most likely to gather.
The campaign is being run jointly by public health and environmental authorities in the Principality, forming part of a wider prevention effort that has grown in scope over recent years as tiger mosquito activity has increased across the Côte d'Azur. Residents can expect to see the discreet monitoring stations in gardens, parks and communal outdoor spaces throughout the coming months.
For those living or spending extended time in Monaco this summer, the programme is a reminder to eliminate standing water on terraces and balconies, which remain the most common breeding ground in urban settings. Any concerns about mosquito activity can be directed to the relevant municipal services.
