Monaco schools celebrate student athletes at UNSS ceremony

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Nearly 140 students from Monaco's four secondary schools were recognised for sporting achievement at the second UNSS Awards Ceremony on 10 June.

On Wednesday 10 June, the Department of Education, Youth and Sport held the second edition of the UNSS Awards Ceremony at a venue in the Principality, bringing together young athletes from across Monaco's secondary school network.

Close to 140 students received recognition for their sporting achievements and commitment throughout the academic year. The four institutions represented were Lycée Albert Ier, Lycée Rainier III, Collège Charles III and Institution François d'Assise - Nicolas Barré, covering the full range of the Principality's state and private secondary education.

The UNSS, the French national union of school sport, runs competitive and recreational sport programmes within the school calendar. For Monaco's student athletes, the ceremony marks an official acknowledgement of participation and results that sit alongside, rather than within, the standard academic curriculum - a signal from the government that sporting commitment at school age is taken seriously here.
