Monaco resident jailed for attacking police officer during traffic stop

A 36-year-old Monaco national received a three-year sentence, with one year to serve, for assaulting a public safety officer during a 2023 roadside check.

A 36-year-old Monaco national has been sentenced to three years in prison, with one year to be served immediately, after attacking a public safety officer during a routine traffic control.

The incident occurred in 2023 at the Saint-Roman interchange, where the defendant violently assaulted the officer during what should have been a standard roadside check. The case was recently heard at Monaco's criminal court.

The severity of the sentence reflects the serious nature of violence against law enforcement officers in the principality. The remaining two years of the sentence have been suspended, though the defendant will serve the initial 12-month term.
