Monaco reaffirms climate commitment at UN

Monaco's delegation used a UN forum to reiterate the Principality's 1.5°C warming target and outline its focused action on road transport, waste and energy performance.
At a recent United Nations session, Monaco's diplomatic representative reaffirmed the Principality's commitment to international environmental law and multilateral climate action. The intervention followed Monaco's participation in COP30 in Belém, where the same message was delivered on the world stage.
The Monegasque delegate stressed that national policy is structured around three high-emission sectors: road transport, waste treatment and energy performance in buildings. These three areas have long sat at the centre of Monaco's domestic climate strategy, given the constraints and characteristics of a densely built, car-reliant microstate.
The statement signals that Monaco intends to hold its position as an active participant in global climate negotiations rather than a passive observer. For residents and property owners in the Principality, the continued focus on energy performance is particularly relevant, as building standards and retrofit requirements are likely to tighten in the years ahead.
