Monaco population reaches 38,857 as census shows shifting profile

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

The Principality's resident population grew by 434 people in 2025, reaching 38,857 as of 31 December, according to the latest IMSEE census report.

Monaco is now home to 38,857 residents, following a 1.1 per cent rise over the course of 2025, the Institut Monégasque de la Statistique et des Études Économiques confirmed in its annual census report published this week. The increase of 434 people in a single year brings the Principality within striking distance of the 39,000 mark for the first time.

The census also points to a shifting demographic profile among those who call Monaco home. With 144 nationalities represented within a territory of just two square kilometres, the data underlines the degree to which the resident base has continued to diversify, a trend that carries direct implications for housing demand, municipal services and the broader property market.

For property owners and investors, steady population growth in a jurisdiction where land supply is essentially fixed reinforces the structural pressures on residential inventory. The figures will be studied closely by agents, developers and the government alike as Monaco continues to plan infrastructure and urban development around a growing permanent population.
