Monaco police step up drink and drug driving checks in August

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

The Sûreté Publique is running daily unannounced roadside checks across the Principality from 3 to 16 August 2026.

From Monday 3 August through Sunday 16 August, Monaco's Sûreté Publique is conducting daily unannounced roadside checks targeting the Principality's main traffic routes. The operation focuses specifically on alcohol and drug impairment, with officers deployed at strategic points across the road network.

August is one of the busiest periods on Monaco's roads, with a sharp rise in visitors and nightlife venues operating at full capacity. Residents and anyone driving through the Principality during this fortnight should expect the possibility of a stop at any time of day or night.

Drivers are reminded that Monaco applies strict limits on blood alcohol levels, and that refusal to submit to a roadside test carries its own penalties under Monegasque law.
