The Principality's health authorities are tracking an international hantavirus outbreak linked to the cruise vessel MV Hondius, with no contact cases reported in Monaco so far.
Health authorities in Monaco are closely monitoring developments following the identification of a hantavirus cluster aboard the MV Hondius, a cruise vessel that disembarked passengers in the Canary Islands on Wednesday 10 May. Those on board returned to their home countries after disembarkation, prompting a number of governments, including Monaco's, to assess any potential exposure among returning residents.
The Principality has confirmed that no contact cases linked to Monaco have been identified at this stage. Authorities say the situation remains under active surveillance, and residents who believe they may have been aboard the affected vessel or in contact with passengers are advised to seek medical guidance promptly.
Hantavirus is a rodent-borne viral illness that does not typically spread between humans, though clusters aboard enclosed environments such as cruise ships require careful monitoring. The Government of Monaco has not issued any broader public health alert, indicating that the immediate risk to the general population is considered low.
