Monaco launches youth disinformation programme with Council of Europe

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

The Princely Government is rolling out a new media literacy initiative with the Council of Europe, targeting young Europeans navigating AI and social media misinformation.

The Princely Government has joined forces with the Council of Europe to launch a structured programme aimed at helping young Europeans identify and resist disinformation online. The initiative, announced on 25 June 2026, includes an open call for applications and marks one of the more concrete steps Monaco has taken in the growing European effort to address information literacy among younger generations.

The programme focuses on equipping participants with practical tools to distinguish verified sources from misleading content, with particular attention to the role of social media platforms and artificial intelligence in blurring that line. As AI-generated content becomes harder to detect and algorithms increasingly shape what people read and watch, the initiative positions Monaco as an active contributor to the Council of Europe's broader digital education agenda.

Residents and families with young people interested in applying can follow updates through the Princely Government's official communications channels, where the call for candidacies is being publicised.
