Monaco joins global alliance to end trade in torture goods

The Principality has formally signed the political declaration of the Global Alliance for Torture-Free Trade, committing to restrict commerce in goods used for torture or capital punishment.
At a ceremony held in Brussels at the European External Action Service, Monaco's Ambassador to the European Union, Frédéric Labarrère, signed the declaration on behalf of the Prince's Government. The Global Alliance for Torture-Free Trade was established and is co-chaired by the European Union, Argentina and Mongolia, and brings together states committed to prohibiting the manufacture, trade and export of equipment designed for torture, cruel punishment or execution.
The alliance's founding political declaration was originally adopted in New York on the sidelines of the 72nd United Nations General Assembly, and Monaco's formal accession in Brussels marks the Principality's alignment with this international humanitarian framework. The move reflects Monaco's broader engagement on human rights at the multilateral level, consistent with its longstanding positions at the United Nations and Council of Europe.
