Monaco issues heatwave warning as temperatures surge

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

The Monaco Government has issued a formal canicule alert urging residents and visitors to take precautions as a prolonged heatwave takes hold across the Principality.

A heatwave is now established across Monaco, with the government calling on residents, workers and visitors to limit prolonged exposure to the heat. The alert identifies infants, young children, pregnant women, older residents and those with chronic health conditions as the groups most at risk from the extreme temperatures.

Outdoor workers, athletes and anyone spending extended periods outside are also advised to adapt their behaviour. Key precautions include staying well hydrated, avoiding outdoor activity during the hottest hours of the day, and seeking cool or shaded environments wherever possible.

The warning, issued on 22 June 2026, reflects standard canicule protocol activated by the government when sustained high temperatures pose a genuine public health risk. Anyone concerned about a vulnerable person is encouraged to check on them regularly and contact emergency services if symptoms of heatstroke or serious dehydration develop.
