Monaco hosts IFDD steering committee for two-day summit

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

The Principality is welcoming delegates from across the French-speaking world this week as the IFDD meets to set its next priorities.

The steering committee of the Francophone Institute for Sustainable Development (IFDD) has gathered in Monaco this week for a two-day meeting aimed at shaping the organisation's future direction. Delegates representing member states of the International Organisation of La Francophonie are working through a programme of decisions on policy priorities and planned actions.

The meeting places Monaco at the centre of a broader French-speaking effort on sustainability, a role the Principality has developed steadily through its environmental diplomacy and commitments on climate and ocean protection. Hosting the IFDD committee reinforces that positioning at an international level, beyond Monaco's bilateral agreements and its work within the United Nations framework.

The IFDD operates as the sustainable development branch of La Francophonie, supporting developing member states with expertise, capacity-building and advocacy at major international negotiations. This week's gathering in Monaco gives the Principality direct influence over the agenda those efforts will follow in the coming period.
