The Principality welcomed the 72nd Bureau meeting of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities on 18 June 2026, as part of its presidency of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers.
On Thursday 18 June 2026, the Mairie de Monaco hosted the 72nd Bureau meeting of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. The gathering was organised by the Mairie's General Secretariat and brought together Bureau members from across the Congress.
The meeting falls within Monaco's broader role as current holder of the presidency of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers, a position that places the Principality at the centre of European multilateral diplomacy for the duration of its term. Hosting the Bureau session underlines Monaco's active engagement with regional and local governance structures at the continental level.
The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities is the Council of Europe body responsible for strengthening democracy at local and regional level across member states. Its Bureau meetings set the agenda and priorities for the Congress as a whole, making the Monaco session a working event of genuine institutional weight rather than a ceremonial visit.
