Monaco Council Warns Residents of Fake Social Services Membership Scam

A fraudster is impersonating social services staff to offer bogus Espace Lamartine memberships, claiming bank partnerships and home visits with welcome gifts.

The Principality has issued an urgent warning about a sophisticated scam targeting residents through fake social service offerings. A con artist is posing as an official from Monaco's Social Services department, approaching people with fraudulent membership proposals for the Espace Lamartine facility.

The scammer's tactics involve claiming partnerships with banking institutions to add legitimacy to the scheme. Victims are being contacted with promises that the impostor will visit their homes to complete the supposed membership process, sweetening the deal by offering complimentary chocolates as a welcome present.

Residents should remain vigilant and verify any unexpected contact from municipal services through official channels. Genuine social services staff follow established protocols and would not typically make unsolicited home visits for membership registrations, particularly when offering gifts or claiming unusual banking partnerships.
