Monaco-born Zeghdar wins World Series gold with France Sevens

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Antoine Zeghdar, born in Monaco, helped France claim a historic World Rugby Sevens Series title in Bordeaux on 7 June 2026.

Antoine Zeghdar, the Monaco-born rugby sevens international, has won gold with France at the final stage of the World Rugby Sevens Series, held at the Stade Atlantique Bordeaux Métropole on 7 June. The title is described as a historic first for the French sevens programme.

Zeghdar, who came through on the Côte d'Azur, has been a regular fixture in the France Sevens setup and the Bordeaux result cements his status as one of the more quietly compelling sporting exports the Principality has produced. For a territory of Monaco's size, having a player competing at the top tier of the World Series carries real weight.

The timing matters too. With the sevens programme now riding this result, French ambitions for the next Olympic cycle are already sharpening. Zeghdar, still in the prime of his career, will be a name to follow as selection conversations begin in earnest.
