Monaco bomb plot: suspects confess to organising the attack

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Two men suspected of killing bomb-carrier Anastasiia Berezovska have reportedly confessed to also orchestrating the assassination attempt on a Ukrainian oligarch in Monaco.

A significant development has emerged in the investigation into last year's attempted assassination of a Ukrainian oligarch in Monaco. The two suspects believed to have killed Anastasiia Berezovska, the woman who planted the device, have now reportedly confessed to being the architects of the entire operation, not merely its executors.

Berezovska died after the bomb she was carrying detonated prematurely near the target's Monaco residence. Investigators had already linked the two suspects to her killing, but the alleged confession marks a shift from treating them as peripheral figures to identifying them as the principal organisers of the plot.

The case has drawn sustained attention given its location in the Principality and its apparent connection to the murky world of Ukrainian oligarch rivalries playing out on European soil. Monaco's judicial authorities have been working alongside international partners since the incident, and this latest admission is expected to sharpen the focus of the formal proceedings considerably.

No date for trial has been announced. The investigation remains open.
