Monaco backs two apps to block nuisance calls and texts

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

The Princely Government and Monaco Telecom have endorsed Saracroche and Blocall, two French-made apps that identify and block unwanted calls and fraudulent texts.

The Princely Government, working with Monaco Telecom, announced on 20 October its support for two free applications designed to cut down on nuisance calls and scam messages reaching residents' phones. Saracroche and Blocall, both developed in France, are available for iPhone and Android and work by flagging known spam numbers before a call connects, while also screening incoming texts for signs of fraud.

For anyone who has grown tired of unidentified numbers interrupting dinner or work, the appeal is straightforward. Both apps draw on shared databases of reported nuisance callers, meaning the more people who use them, the sharper they become at catching new scam patterns before they spread across the Principality.

The move reflects a wider push by Monaco Telecom to give residents practical tools against phone fraud, rather than relying solely on awareness campaigns. Older residents and those less familiar with smartphone settings may still need a hand getting set up, something local Monaco Telecom branches have said they can help with in person.
