Mirmand sets Monaco's Council of Europe agenda in Strasbourg

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Minister of State Christophe Mirmand addressed the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on 22 June to outline Monaco's priorities as it chairs the Committee of Ministers.

On Monday 22 June, Minister of State Christophe Mirmand travelled to Strasbourg to address the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, setting out the principal objectives of Monaco's presidency of the Committee of Ministers, which began on 15 May.

The presidency gives Monaco an unusually prominent platform within European multilateral diplomacy, placing the Principality at the centre of the continent's foremost human rights organisation for the duration of its term. Mirmand's address to the Parliamentary Assembly is a formal requirement of the role, opening a dialogue between the Committee and elected parliamentarians from member states.

For a small state whose influence on the European stage is necessarily exercised through institutions rather than bilateral weight, the presidency represents a meaningful opportunity to shape the Council's agenda and align it with causes Monaco has championed, including environmental protection and access to justice.
