An Austrian man, 55, was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle on Quai Jean-Charles Rey in Fontvieille on Sunday evening, with the driver taken into custody.

A serious road accident on Sunday evening cast a shadow over the final hours of Grand Prix weekend, after a 55-year-old Austrian national was struck by a car on Quai Jean-Charles Rey in Fontvieille. The victim was taken to the Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace in a critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle involved was placed in police custody following the incident. No further details on the circumstances of the collision have been released at this stage. The accident occurred as crowds were dispersing from the Grand Prix, when pedestrian and vehicle traffic in and around Fontvieille tends to be unusually heavy.
