A restored 1956 documentary of Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly's wedding week will be shown in Monaco on 16 October after three years of restoration work.
Footage of the week-long celebrations marking the marriage of Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly in April 1956 has been brought back to public view after a three-year restoration effort. The reels, long overlooked in the archives, capture the ceremonies and festivities that drew international attention to the Principality at the time.
The restored documentary will be presented on 16 October as a ciné-conférence, a format combining the screening with live commentary. Thomas Fouilleron, director of the Archives and Library of the Palace, and historian Vincent Vatrican will guide the audience through the footage, offering context on the wedding and its significance to Monaco's modern history.
For residents and those with a long-standing connection to the Principality, the screening offers a rare chance to see unseen material from one of the defining moments of the Grimaldi era. The event is likely to draw strong interest given the enduring fascination with the royal family's history and the rarity of previously unreleased footage from the period.
