La Vuelta countdown reaches Monaco with Casino Square convoy

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Three promotional vehicles toured Monaco's streets this week, marking 52 days until the Principality hosts the Grand Départ of La Vuelta.

Fifty-two days out from one of cycling's biggest occasions, Monaco got its first taste of La Vuelta fever as a convoy of three promotional vehicles wound through the Principality. The route took in Casino Square before climbing to the Place du Palais, giving residents and visitors a glimpse of the spectacle Spain's premier cycling race intends to bring when it rolls into town for its Grand Départ.

Monaco is set to host the opening stage of La Vuelta a España in August 2026, joining the short list of locations outside Spain to have launched the race. The convoy's appearance follows the familiar template of Tour de France publicity caravans, repurposed here to build local awareness ahead of what will be a significant event for road closures, crowds and international broadcast attention across the Principality.

For residents, the Grand Départ will mean considerable disruption to normal traffic and access in the days surrounding the start, particularly around the Rocher and the lower Condamine. Further route and schedule details are expected from the organisers in the coming weeks.
