Kiev extends detention over Monaco bomb plot killing

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Ukrainian prosecutors have extended the pre-trial detention of two men accused of murdering the woman who planted a bomb outside a Monaco resident's home.

A Ukrainian court has prolonged the pre-trial detention of two men suspected of killing the woman who placed an explosive device outside the Monaco residence of Vadim Ermolaev on 29 June. The woman was later found dead near Kiev, and investigators believe her death is directly linked to the attempted attack on the Principality-based businessman.

The case has drawn attention in Monaco given the rarity of such incidents within the Principality's borders, where security remains tight across residential districts. While the bomb did not detonate as intended, the episode raised questions among residents and property owners about the reach of foreign disputes into Monaco's otherwise low-crime environment.

Ukrainian authorities have not released further details on the two suspects or the exact circumstances of the woman's death, and the investigation continues on both sides. Monaco's own judicial authorities have not commented publicly on whether a parallel inquiry is under way regarding the device found near Ermolaev's home.
