Jean Desideri, founder of Monaco heart centre, dies at 95

Jean Desideri, one of the key figures behind the creation of the Centre Cardio-thoracique de Monaco, has died at the age of 95.
Jean Desideri, who played a central role in establishing the Centre Cardio-thoracique de Monaco alongside cardiac surgeon Professor Vincent Dor and Dr Jean-Joseph Pastor, died on Tuesday at the age of 95. His contribution to what became one of Europe's leading cardiac surgery centres was characteristic of the man: consequential but conducted without fanfare.
The Centre Cardio-thoracique, located on Avenue Pasteur in the Larvotto district, has treated tens of thousands of patients since its founding and remains a cornerstone of Monaco's medical infrastructure. Desideri's work in its creation helped secure that legacy for the Principality.
A funeral ceremony will be held on Tuesday 22 September at the Monastère de Cimiez in Nice.
