A signed original Corto Maltese artwork by Hugo Pratt sold for €32,500 at the Hôtel des Ventes de Monte-Carlo's third dedicated comic art sale on 12 May 2026.
The Hôtel des Ventes de Monte-Carlo held its third specialist comic art auction on Tuesday 12 May, drawing collectors to a 200-lot sale that placed original graphic work firmly alongside fine art in the Principality's auction calendar.
The standout result came from a signed original board by Hugo Pratt featuring his celebrated sailor-adventurer Corto Maltese, which sold for €32,500. Pratt, who spent his final years in Switzerland but maintained deep ties to the French Riviera, remains one of the most collected names in European comic art, and prices for his originals have risen steadily over the past decade.
The HVMC's decision to run a dedicated bande dessinée session for a third consecutive time reflects genuine demand from Monaco-based collectors and those travelling to the Principality specifically for the sale. With 200 lots on offer, the auction covered a broad sweep of the medium, though it was the Pratt board that set the headline figure for the day.
