Grimaldi Forum to Stage Major Magritte Retrospective in 2027

The Grimaldi Forum has confirmed its 2027 summer exhibition will be a long-awaited retrospective dedicated to Belgian surrealist René Magritte.
After wrapping up its summer 2026 exhibition on Monaco's relationship with the automobile, the Grimaldi Forum is already focused on what comes next. The venue has confirmed that its 2027 summer show will centre on René Magritte, the Belgian surrealist painter whose work defined a significant strand of early twentieth-century art.
The project has been in the making for some time. Staff at the Forum have described it as an exhibition they have wanted to mount for at least fifteen years, suggesting the 2027 edition will be a substantial and carefully assembled retrospective rather than a lighter touring show.
For Monaco residents and visitors, the Grimaldi Forum's summer exhibitions have become a reliable fixture on the cultural calendar, regularly drawing major international loans and large audiences during the peak season. A Magritte retrospective, if realised at the scale suggested, would rank among the most significant fine-art events the venue has staged.
