Football watchdog caps AS Monaco's wage bill for 2026-27

French football's financial regulator has placed AS Monaco under a formal wage-bill ceiling for the 2026-27 season, limiting the club's spending power in the transfer market.
The Commission de Contrôle des Clubs Professionnels (CCCP), the financial watchdog arm of the Ligue de Football Professionnel, has imposed a salary cap on AS Monaco for the coming season. The ruling, released on Wednesday evening as part of the CCCP's latest batch of decisions, means the club must operate within a defined payroll ceiling throughout 2026-27.
The measure is typically applied when a club's wage expenditure is judged to be out of proportion with its revenues or financial health. For Monaco, it places a direct constraint on summer recruitment, as any incoming transfer business will need to be structured within the boundaries set by the regulator.
The timing matters. Monaco are preparing for pre-season with the squad-building window already open, and this ruling will shape the club's options in the weeks ahead. Whether the ceiling reflects a temporary compliance concern or a more sustained financial adjustment will become clearer as the club responds publicly to the decision.
