Cultural Heritage Under Threat: Photography Exhibition Opens at Saint-Martin Gardens
A striking photo exhibition exploring endangered cultural heritage runs at Saint-Martin Gardens until October 2026.
The Principality's Department of Cultural Affairs has unveiled a thought-provoking photography exhibition examining the various threats facing our cultural inheritance. Displayed on the railings of Saint-Martin Gardens at Le Rocher, the exhibition will remain accessible to visitors until 4th October 2026.
The powerful visual narrative highlights the vulnerability of both tangible and intangible cultural assets across the globe. Physical heritage including artworks, furniture, architectural landmarks, written documents, constructed landscapes, botanical gardens, and archaeological sites face mounting pressures from environmental and human factors.
Equally at risk are the invisible threads of cultural identity: age-old traditions, regional languages, performing arts, ceremonial practices, festive celebrations, traditional crafts, and distinctive culinary practices. The exhibition draws attention to how climate change, natural disasters, shifting social patterns, urban development, and mass tourism increasingly threaten these irreplaceable elements of human heritage.
The outdoor display format allows both residents and tourists to engage with these critical conservation themes while enjoying one of Monaco's most scenic locations overlooking the Mediterranean.
