Czech and Slovak community marks founding anniversary

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Around fifty people gathered at the Banc Václav Havel to mark the anniversary of Czechoslovakia's founding.

The Banc Václav Havel, the small memorial bench named after the former Czech president, drew around 50 people on Wednesday 28 October for the annual commemoration of Czechoslovakia's founding. Members of Monaco's Czech and Slovak communities were joined by Monegasque friends for the gathering, organised by the Association pour l'Amitié Monégasco-Tchèque.

The event has become a fixture in the Principality's calendar of community gatherings, reflecting the ties between Monaco and the two nations that once formed a single state. For residents with Czech or Slovak roots, the bench serves as a modest but permanent marker of that shared history within the Principality.
