Council of Europe Secretary General addresses Monaco students ahead of Principality's upcoming presidency
Alain Berset met with local secondary students at Charles III College as Monaco prepares to take the helm of the Council's ministerial committee.
Students at Charles III College had a rare opportunity to engage with one of Europe's most senior officials on Thursday morning, as Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset visited Monaco ahead of the Principality's forthcoming presidency of the organisation's Committee of Ministers.
The meeting, held in the college auditorium, formed part of Monaco's preparations for its upcoming role leading the 46-nation human rights body. Interior Minister Lionel Beffre attended alongside Ambassador Gabriel Revel, Monaco's permanent representative to the Council of Europe.
The visit underscores Monaco's growing diplomatic engagement as it prepares to chair the Council's decision-making body. The Principality's presidency will provide a platform to champion European values and human rights initiatives across the continent.
For the students present, the encounter offered valuable insight into Monaco's role on the international stage and the workings of European institutions beyond the EU framework.
