Casino de Monte-Carlo restoration before F1 Grand Prix

By Michael Moretti, MonacoViews Editorial

Dozens of workers are restoring the Casino de Monte-Carlo's Belle Époque façade, hidden behind a giant trompe-l'oeil, with work due to finish before the Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Behind a large-scale trompe-l'oeil reproduction of its own Belle Époque façade, the Casino de Monte-Carlo is undergoing a significant restoration. Dozens of workers are quietly getting on with the job while the illusion keeps the Place du Casino looking, to the casual eye, much as it always has.

The project is being carried out on behalf of the Société des Bains de Mer, the company that operates the Casino and much of Monaco's landmark hospitality infrastructure around the square. The restoration is focused on returning the building's ornate exterior to its original condition, reversing years of weathering on one of the Principality's most photographed facades.

For residents and visitors alike, the timing is deliberate. The work is scheduled for completion before the Formula 1 Grand Prix, when the area around the Casino and the surrounding streets will be at the centre of global attention. It is a tight deadline, but one that reflects how seriously Monaco takes its public image during the race weekend.
