Brembo hits back after Leclerc blames brakes for Monaco GP retirement

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Brake supplier Brembo has publicly challenged Charles Leclerc's post-race comments after the Monégasque driver retired from his home Grand Prix on Sunday.

Charles Leclerc's retirement from the 83rd Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday has spilled beyond the pit wall, after brake supplier Brembo responded sharply to the Ferrari driver's suggestion that a braking failure contributed to his race ending early. The Italian company described itself as "truly surprised" by the remarks, pushing back against what it clearly regards as an unfair characterisation of its equipment.

For Leclerc, losing his home race in these circumstances carries particular weight. A Monaco win has long been the defining gap in his record, and any public dispute between Ferrari and a key technical partner in the immediate aftermath adds an uncomfortable dimension to what was already a painful afternoon on the Circuit de Monaco.

Brembo has supplied braking systems to Ferrari for decades and the public nature of its response is unusual. The spat raises questions about how Ferrari will manage the relationship going into the remainder of the season, and whether Leclerc's trackside frustration will require some diplomatic repair work in the days ahead.
