Biereth breaks his drought as Monaco win in Poland

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Mika Biereth scored in AS Monaco's 3-2 Conference League play-off first-leg victory away at Zabrze, ending a lengthy run without a goal in competitive football.

Mika Biereth found the net in Zabrze on Thursday evening as AS Monaco defeated Górnik in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League play-off, winning 3-2 on Polish soil. The goal ended a prolonged goal drought in competitive matches for the Danish striker, who struggled for form and confidence throughout last season.

Those close to the squad have noted a visible shift in the forward's demeanour since the goal, suggesting something has clicked for a player who arrived at the Principality with considerable promise but found himself in the shadows more often than not. A second leg at the Stade Louis II will now determine whether Monaco advance to the group stage.

For a squad still assembling its identity under the summer's changes, Biereth rediscovering his sharpness would be a timely boost. A striker confident in front of goal changes options in attack, and Monaco will need every one of them as the European campaign and Ligue 1 season build simultaneously.
