Pianist Natacha Melkonian and violinist David Lefèvre marked an award-winning Gabriel Dupont recording at the Reformed Church of Monaco.
The Reformed Church of Monaco hosted the latest instalment of the Concerts de la Voûte series on Saturday evening, with pianist Natacha Melkonian and violinist David Lefèvre dedicating the programme to French composer Gabriel Dupont. The evening built around Melkonian's recent recording of Dupont's work, which has already picked up awards since its release.
Dupont, a composer largely overshadowed by his contemporaries in the standard repertoire, found a rare full evening of attention through the pairing of piano and violin pieces drawn from the album. Lefèvre's contribution added a chamber dimension to a programme that might otherwise have been a solo recital, giving Monaco audiences a chance to hear less familiar French repertoire performed live rather than on disc.
The Concerts de la Voûte series has become a fixture for chamber music in the Principality, using the Reformed Church's acoustics for intimate programming that sits outside the grander orchestral calendar of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. For residents who follow the city's classical scene, these smaller venues often provide the first live hearing of recordings that later find wider circulation.
