Attempted murder trial opens over 34-stab attack on partner

By Laurent Duval, MonacoViews Editorial

A Monegasque man faces Monaco's criminal court this week, accused of stabbing his then-partner 34 times in an April 2022 attack she survived.

Jean-Charles Mulini, 33, appeared before Monaco's criminal court this week charged with the attempted murder of his former partner, in a case that has drawn considerable attention across the Principality. The April 2022 knife attack left the victim with 34 stab wounds, injuries she survived despite their severity.

The trial is among the more serious criminal proceedings Monaco's courts have heard in recent years. Attempted murder cases of this nature are rare in the Principality, and the outcome is expected to be closely followed by residents and legal observers alike.
