AS Monaco sign Mathys Detourbet on loan from Manchester City

AS Monaco have confirmed the season-long loan of 19-year-old winger Mathys Detourbet, purchased by Manchester City for €25 million.

AS Monaco have officially confirmed the arrival of Mathys Detourbet on loan from Manchester City, with the deal announced on Thursday 2 July. The 19-year-old winger joins the Monegasques for one season, with an option to extend for a further year should he make at least five appearances for the club.

Detourbet arrives having only recently been acquired by City from Troyes for €25 million, making his temporary switch to the Principality a significant vote of confidence from the English club in Monaco's ability to develop young talent. Negotiations had been progressing since May before the move was finalised this week.

The loan fits a pattern Monaco have followed in recent seasons, using their Ligue 1 platform to bring in promising players from major European clubs seeking first-team minutes. For Detourbet, a full season at Louis II Stadium represents a considerable step up from his time in the French second tier.
