AS Monaco produced one of the more eye-catching results of their pre-season schedule on Sunday, beating Liverpool 3-2 at Anfield in their fifth warm-up fixture ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. The Principality club are midway through a six-day training camp in England, and the victory will give Filipe Luis's squad a significant confidence boost before competitive football resumes.
The match was far from straightforward. Liverpool took a 2-0 lead and Monaco spent long stretches under pressure, with the gaps in Luis's 4-4-2 system showing clearly in the first half. The turning point came as the hosts made wholesale substitutions, allowing Monaco to assert themselves and eventually find three goals to complete a comeback that few would have predicted at half-time.
The win arrives eleven days before Monaco's first official fixture. Luis, who took charge at the Stade Louis II last season, has been testing his preferred shape throughout pre-season, and while Saturday underlined there is still work to do defensively, the character shown at Anfield suggests there is genuine depth and resolve within this squad.
